The
Vocal Group Hall of Fame
|
The
Vocal Group Hall of Fame
is located in Sharon, Pennsylvania just a short drive from
Pittsburgh. Vocal groups of many decades are honored through
comprehensive and interesting displays as well as an annual
induction ceremony. A nominating committee compiles a list
of possible nominees and the actual nominees are selected
by vote.
|
We had the distinct
honor of being involved in the 2001 induction ceremonies held
at the Hall in October of 2001. Below you'll be able to see
some of the activity of the weekend.

of the front of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame as seen from
the street in Sharon center
|
As you enter
the Hall, you'll be greeted by one of the staff. These folks
are so pleasant they're a joy to be around
|
|
|
This is one of
the interesting and informative display areas. So much musical
history is right before your eyes.
|
There are three
floors of displays in the Hall. A huge amount of memorabilia
has been given or loaned by the honored artists and friends
|
|
|
From the Mills
Brothers to the Backstreet Boys, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame
covers it all
|
In the Supremes'
display area, visitors can see original dresses worn by Mary
Wilson, Flo Ballard, and Diana Ross
|
|
|
This is another
of the display areas at the Hall. Memorabilia of all types
are on display here
|
As you can see,
rare pictures, records, clothing are all a part of the memories
|
|
|
George is enjoying
the company of Tiffany Frank, the former executive director
of the Hall, and Tony Butala, lead singer of the Lettermen
|
On the first
floor of the Hall, visitors will find the Mills Brothers display
including beautiful bronz statues of the singers
|
|
|
Mary Wilson of
the Supremes, Ed, and George at the V.I.P. dinner the night
before the Induction ceremonies. As you can see, the Chordettes
are in the background avoiding Ed and George. Wise Move!
|
Ed is sitting
with Tony Butala of the Lettermen. Tony was one of the people
instrumental in the creation of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
Tony continues to work diligently to improve and expand the
facility. Good work Tony!

This is Ed with
the world renown Chordettes. A nicer group of ladies you'll
never find
|
George and Ed
find themselves in good company with Claudette Robinson of
the Miracles. She may have other thoughts

Each
year the Hall conducts its annual ceremonies honoring those
vocal groups chosen from the list of nominees. Below you'll
see some of the inductees receiving their awards.

|
After the induction
ceremony, this year's inductees and stars that had been inducted
in previous years as well as some that have yet to be inducted
posed for pictures on the huge stairway that leads to the
second floor display area. What an incredible gathering of
legends. The Chordettes, the Miracles, the Pips, The Orioles,
Mary Wilson, the Lennon Sisters, the Lettermen and many more.
What a group!

|
The
induction ceremonies were held during the afternoon, but by
the time evening rolled around, it was time for the "show
of shows". Tickets for the evening show had gone on sale
several weeks earlier and as you can see, the crowd was huge.
|
|
|
The stage set
up for the evening show was almost as impressive as the show
itself
|
The crowd was
extremely enthusiastic, but there again you would have to
be in la-la land not to be
|
|
|
When the Rainbows
sang their hit "Mary Lee" you would have thought
someone was playing the record. Wow!
